Replacing a ruined transmission can be incredibly expensive—sometimes exceeding the value of your car itself. It’s important to take good care of your transmission. Here a few tips on how to keep your transmission, and your car, running smoothly.
Check your transmission fluid
Before you drive your car, make sure that it isn’t leaking transmission fluid. Low transmission fluid can cause wear or vital system failure. In addition to checking for leaks, you should check the color of the fluid. It should be more red than brown. Read your car’s manual to determine how often it needs to be changed.
Shift properly
Learning to shift properly on the manual transmission of a car like a Mazda MX-5 is important, and so is knowing how to shift gears properly in a car with an automatic transmission. Make sure that you come to a complete stop before changing your car into park or reverse. If your car still has forward (or backward) momentum, then the gears in the transmission are still turning, and suddenly changing gears can throw them off.
Make sure you are towed properly
Almost everyone will need a tow truck at some point in his or her life. When your car gets towed, make sure that it doesn;t need a new transmission by the time they get it to the shop. Put your car in neutral before it’s towed, and make sure that the powered wheels are the ones lifted from the ground.

So you're in the market for a new car. You've done the research, narrowed down your options, and even visited a used car dealer or two. You're almost ready to buy. Now it's time to consider your financing options. There are a number of alternative methods of payment for a new vehicle:
Installment plans: In this arrangement, you take the car home and pay a monthly sum on it until it's completely paid for. Most new and used car dealers offer installment plans (called “hire purchases” in some parts of the world), so it's a good idea to shop around to see which dealers in your area offer the best plans.
Loans: These are usually personal loans taken out by the buyer, whether from a bank, a finance company, or a private lender. Before taking out a loan, take a close look at your personal finances and make sure it's something you'll be able to keep up with.
Leasing: Under these circumstances, instead of owning the car, you're basically renting it. You're generally responsible for keeping it insured and in good shape, but the car remains the property of the leaser. If you enjoy getting a new car on a regular basis, this could be an ideal option for you.
